She holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mrs. Ricks is a strong leader in Kindergarten and the PBIS Core Team. Patti Barnes, principal, states, “Our teachers have been asked to implement new initiatives and many deserve the title of Teacher of the Week.  Ms. Ricks stands out in my mind by her positive attitude as she is tackling the challenge of integrating all of the new initiatives.  Ms. Ricks is working tirelessly to increase her effectiveness by adding new instructional strategies to her lesson plans.  She is creating and delivering excellent guided reading instruction, and modeling the tenets of PBIS through engaging activities to practice following directions and procedures.  She is working many extra hours to make sure she is prepared every day.  She never gives up on students that come to her with no prior school experience, and she believes and expects that all her children can overcome their barriers to success.”
