She holds a bachelor’s degree from Pfeiffer University and a master’s degree from East Carolina University. Mrs. Powell has been a wonderful asset to the PECIL program.  She has grown as a teacher leader and is continuously striving to hone her craft as an educator.  Her background in STEM has been a plus for the early college program as this is one of their focus areas. Mrs. Powell has brought fresh eyes to students and faculty as to how we view the world of science and her passion for science is very evident.  She has been willing to try new things in the classroom in order to engage students or add meaning to instructional content. She always volunteers to help colleagues and students, organizes and leads many activities and projects that relate to STEM, co-advises for Student Council, and participates in Parent-Teacher-Student meetings. Matthew West, PECIL teacher, says “Mrs. Powell is an undeniable presence whose influence resounds with every student at PECIL.  Her positive attitude and constant focus hold both students and faculty accountable.  Without her, I am certain we would not have the strength of character our program currently holds!”
